Notes on running DNS at home
A local caching resolver makes everyday browsing feel a little faster and gives one place to look when a device misbehaves.
Things worth remembering
- Keep at least two upstream servers, and make sure they are reachable when the main uplink fails.
- Short negative-cache times save a lot of confusion after fixing a record.
- Write down which devices ignore DHCP-provided DNS; there is always one.
